I have a 1994 v6 volvo penta sx and would like to change the manifolds. Thinking these may b the originals but who knows. They both have hairline cracks and would like to replace before I create some real damage. How do I find the part number and should I also get the risers? How difficult to install? Just bolt on with new gaskets? Any help is much appreciated....

Re: Time to change manifolds

If you are in the USA you can access the part numbers from the iboats or from volvopentastore dot com. Outside the us I use marinepartseurope dot com. You will need to provide more detailed info for your specific engine ex. Mine is a volvo 5.7 gi-e w a sx-m lower. The letter after each dash is the most important, and is best read from the info stickers on the engine. The forum stickys provide more details of the info needed. Procedures for install are In the service manuals, but if you do not have them, providing specific drive information will usually allow someone of the forums to upload the nest necessary pages for your specific repair.
Happy boating!

Re: Time to change manifolds

my manifolds have the hose connection on side and those have on bottom of manifolds. Not sure if matters on hose location but those are the only ones I could find also....

Re: Time to change manifolds

Scrape all the gasket material off and post pictures of both the riser and manifold. They overall don't look too bad except in the lower left corner.

EDIT: Just read you had cracks so you should replace.

Always replace risers when you replace manifolds. Risers actually don't last as long as manifolds and they often get replaced twice as often as manifolds. My opinion is to use OEM manifolds only. They may cost more but they are less likely to leak and last longer to make the extra price you pay worth it.
