Timing Parts Compatibility

Does anyone know if the Spark Advance Assembly 396667 is a suitable replacement for Spark Advance Assembly 432095? Seems like OMC probably changed the design because the 432095 kept snapping off at the threaded end. I'd hate to trash a whole working engine because one stupid plastic part broke.

Re: Timing Parts Compatibility

Can you repair / improve the old part by using epoxy to install a nut or threaded rod ???----Post a picture of the part or model # of the engine.

VJ200TXESM - The old part can't be repaired as I don't have the pieces. I would love to just modify what I have to make it work, but I'm not familiar with the overall mechanics behind the mechanism. Timing_Pic.jpg

Your location ??------The V-4 also used the same part.-----I am sure it can be repaired / fixed !--------Should be lots available on E-Bay too.---------If you could walk over I have some good used ones here.--Not likely you could walk over though.

No, Ontario is quite a hike from south Louisiana! I tried eBay, there was one listed in the past, but nothing current other than the other part (396667). Hence the question. They seem pretty much identical except the end where mine snapped off.

Then you'll have to find the parts to fix it. Did you look in the top secret files at the beginning of this forum for salvage yards ??

Didn't realize salvage yards were listed in there. I'll give that a gander if what I'm attempting doesn't work. I've got the part at my house now for the newer (but still obsolete) max timing advance assembly. I'm guessing between that part and what I have, I can at least get an understanding of exactly what the mechanism does so I can at the very least fashion something that will approximate its function. I've found a few threads in the past that recommended using the newer assembly, but no follow-up on whether or not it worked. I'll definitely come back and share my results with the group.

Re: Timing Parts Compatibility

I have the same problem as you, same broken off piece, same spot. There use to be a few marinas that had some used ones around, but since Sandy most places sent the used stuff to the scrap yards.
As far as the part #s interchanging your best bet might be an older marina with a good parts guy. I'm sure they are out there, I just haven't found one. Sadly the place that rebuilt my 225 Johnson 3 years ago no longer services the older engines. (He only services the new E-TECs that "he" is selling) His Dad has retired who I loved dealing with since the '70s so I can't even get info anymore.
Sorry about the rant.
Good luck with your search and if I find out if the #s interchange I will post it.
I will be going to a place that is saying they have ton of used engines and parts. I will also let you know if that pans out.

New to the both the forum and to boat ownership :)
I have the same issue going on as the 2 fellows above... Have either of you had any luck with interchangeable parts for the obsolete one?
