Timming??

When doing a link and sync on a 1988 25 hp johnson do you have to use a timming light to set the timming

Yes.... to properly set the carb/advance timing the ignition timing needs to be set as well.

If you dont have a timing light oyu can usually rent or borrow one from an auto parts store. It's cheap insurance, if your a few degrees overtimed it can cause bad things for your motor. Cheap insurance I'd say.

Do i need to do this before or after i set the carbs and throttle control arm and where exactly do i point the timming light at

before, should be pointer above carbs i believe, numbers on flywheel.

In joe reeves wot timming proced he talks about a timming plate under the flywheel is he talking about the one the cam is on that advances with the throttle/ question 2 it says hook timming light to number1 plug do i just leave the other one hanging question 3 what is the best way to make a spark tester.

The numbers that tell you the timming degrees are worn off but the marks are ok question is each mark is equal to 2 degrees is that right
