ok great, thanks for the thoughts guys, hopefully my steering cable will work, ill have to call the guy and see...and ya i was gonna start even lower than that hahaha but lets see what happens...would like to hear it start before i hand any cash over!!
also, can you transport those engines on there sides? ive got a van (family man now haha) and would like to get it in there rather than borrowing a truck...i brought home my lil 2 hp and it was ok, just a lil gas leakage

As you've seen might want to lay something down to protect carpet if your van has it, but yep just lay it down and bring it on home.

so im nailing down my floor now, ive decided to rivot it since the self tappers suck...the middle of the boat has a channel for fastening the wood to it, but the sides dont, im not going to frame in with aluminum around the sides like im sure people think you need to, but i am going to rivot it to the cross supports of the boat hull...how bad of an idea is this? will it really pull on the hull rivots, or not too bad? i really would rather have it fastened down then just float the sides (very annoying)
any thoughts would be appreciated

well i think im gonna go look at that big twin this week, if it starts then ill steal it up...
just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on my floor situation? i talked to a guy at work and he figured the rivots dont last long anyways, but im just worried that by mounting my seats to the floor, and haveing the floor rivoted to the stringers (side running hull supports) not sure the real name...when moving on the seat the seat/floor would be pulled a bunch and could loosen the actual boat rivots? or am i just being paranoid?

My riveted floor is still going strong, 39 years, factory original 1973.

wow thats pretty sweet! so you dont think that rivotting the floor right to the hull will put too much stress on the boat then?

thanks guys....shes coming along, going to let the gluvit on the transom cure for another day or 2 then a few coats of deck paint and i can put it in place...

got the floor rivoted down all the way around, no more creaks which is nice, feels good and solid...got some good bolts for the transom so now just waiting to paint it so i can pop it in place ready to take on a big 40 HP...brought up my electric winch anchor and all the wiring so i can start putting that on, guess ill only need the battery for my depth finder and the anchor since this particular motor is only pull start (my arms will be huge by summers end haha) same as my lil 2 hp trolling motor...maybe ill mount the battery up front, ive only got 12' of battery cable so that wont reach from the back, so i guess ill just mount the electric posts to the back of the dash...havent decided to get a bilge pump yet or not...the boats only in water when i am (maybe thats a good reason itself haha) since there like 12 bucks on amazon ill probably splurge haha
can anyone suggest a battery switch? ive went thru a few different ones and they just corrode and ended up killing the battery anyways

on the transom, either epoxy it, or do what i did............i used 5 coats of spar varnish (marine grade) , UV protection and the new transom on my tinner should outlast me ....................

EDIT: nice boat and project as well.............. should be sweet at the end

i think this time around, im just going to paint it with the solid stain deck paint a few coats...i gluvit'd the edges and the bottom half (all i had left from doing the boat seams)
i plan on painting the boat in a couple years on the outside, ive painted boats before and wish i hadn't as it was a waste of time and money since i just got rid of it because it didn't fit my needs...so im going to set up the inside of the boat to where i think i like it...its painted and new flooring, but instead of all the work of the outside paint job, ill wait to make sure i love this boat before i do a beaut of a paint job...the transom hasn't been a very big job, just time consuming, just want to get a few years out of it, next time i would invest in some real nice wood, then use the west system to seal it all in, then it would truly last forever, that stuff is magic
