My wife has a bread knife, about 12" long, stainless steel. It has real small serrations on the edge and it's perfect for cutting the foam sheets. Edges are smooth and it's like.....well....slicing bread.......sorry.

Guess a hack saw blade would work too, but the bread knife with a handle that fits nicely in hand works great for me.

Tip for cutting foam and not being reminded about it constantly for the next year or so . Buy your own electric carving knife either at wally world new or grab one at a yard sale either one will keep SWMBO from catching you with hers :D. I let SWMBO catch me with her bread knife once and I still hear about it regularly LOL.

Get yourself a hotwire cutter at a craft store. Usually found by the Styrofoam at the craft store. It looks like a coping saw and runs on "D" batteries. It's way cleaner than a turkey carver, just stinks a bit when the foam melts, but man are the cuts clean!

What are you doing with the foam if you don't mind me asking?

Good luck!

Helping a friend with his restore project before he lays down the new floor. Foam sheets from Lowes is for floatation. I'm also using it on my garage door. The west Texas sun beating down on my white double car garage door makes it warm inside when working on the boat.

When building the hard top from the pink foam sheets, I found a box cutter made nice clean cuts. If you want them straight, use a 4 ft level as a guide.

Hello m8s..

I agree with a box cutter blade..you dont even need to cut through..just score and break...with templates it works like a charm..

Re: Tip for cutting those pink or blue foam sheets

My wife keeps telling me we're missing a knife. I keep telling her no we're not. Lucky for me she never asks where it is and I never volunteer to tell her.

Lot of good suggestions to choose from here. I haven't tried it yet, but how about a regular 'ol carpenters hand saw? Or how about a jig saw.

I got curious and did a quick search and look what came up. Extreme, but if you're into production or just like to blow cash.....

When I built houses, I used to line the outside of the foundation with pink foam. Running it through the table saw was the quickest way as there were no knives and straitedges involved. Plus, it yields a perfectly clean and straight "factory" edge

Going back about 40 years...... I had a friend who had a styrofoam cutter that was a nichrome wire heated up. You could cut stuff uf to a foot thick .....spirals, designs, cut out letters etc. He worked with displays in major stores. Nice clean cuts.

Pink Blizzard  LOL

I replaced my "dashboard" on my boat with a piece of that PVC trim board. It was great to work with but definitely: white blizzard!!!
