Re: Tire guru please! Questions on tire mileage

Well thats a lot of good information, Although
I am not a lawyer. It may sound good on paper and
convince some lawyers, Sure it is unacceptable
for a tire manufacturer, at a plant or two to cut
corners as ALL tire manufacturers do.If your
favorite tire manufacturer was put under the
microscope like firestone was,you would inevitably
find flaws in the tires you ride around on.These
firestone tires failed because they were under-
inflated. Even Ford recommended under inflation to
give a car like ride and improve ride quality.Did
you see a recall from any other truck manufaturer.
Ford recalled the tires because it was a customer
relations issue. Not a complete tire failure problem.

NOSLEEP,

"ODI conducted a non-destructive analysis of numerous randomly collected focus tires and peer tires from southern states"

So they did look at competitors (Peers). That is how they determined there was a problem specific to Firestone. This wasn't legal mumbo-jumbo it was engineering analysis by the government to determine of they had to force a recall.

Ford issued a recall becuase the Gov forced them to. That was the purpose of the report and analysis I cited.

Hey, I'm only saying, why take a chance at all? It's not they are the least expensive or aything.

Re: Tire guru please! Questions on tire mileage

For decades auto manufacturers wanted 28 psi in the tires for comfort then it went to 36 psi for fuel economy for the industry. Good old Ford goes back to an underinflated tire on a TRUCK to improve the ride. No one tested these tires at at a 36 psi to see if they fall apart as fast as they did. Who is going to take the blame. If Ford does then you will never see a Bridgestone-Firestone tire on a Ford again!!! If the supplier takes the hit then business will continue as usual, Firestone will fade away for a while and Bridgestone will be put in the forefront. You can call it least collateral damage if you want.

My north carolina girlfriend had an Explorer, a 97, sharp truck ... and when I went to check the tires, I told her ill put em to 35 pounds, get some decent mileage, she argued noooo, she wanted em at 26 like the book said ...

NO WAY do they have them at 26, they will fall apart!!!!

she showed me ... damnn, shes right, does say 26 ...

as usual, I didnt listen, put em at 32, but that bothered me, 26 pounds in a top heavy cinder block of a truck ... those little guys go about 5 thou empty, what the helll are they thinking??

anyway, turns out those tires were failing left and right (and front and back too) I had her get Michelins, only cause they didnt have Continentals in stock

and thats all I have to say about that
