Reelfishing. What do you have thast gathers so many boats and things. Do you have a salvage yard.? Mabey just a life interest in Boats and things and braver than most to persue the things that interest you. I 'll bet you would be interesting to sid down with trade storys's with.

I've always been into old boats, over the past 30 years I've owned more than a hundred between those I bought for my own use or those that I bought either for parts or to resell.
I rarely buy any to resell, usually I buy either because I like the boat or see potential in it. Often I buy a boat just to upgrade a motor or trailer on one of my boats as well, often selling the rest off as again a complete but different package. Lately I've not been buying much in the effort to lessen the amount I'll have to eventually move but a few have crept into the fleet anyhow, one being my 67 MFG that was in just too nice of shape to refuse. I'm always looking for the perfect boat, or at least something better than I have now. There are a few that will never leave.
I at one time thought that the Starchief would be in that category but I don't think a cabin boat will be of much value to me in a warmer climate and now with the cost of fuel the I really need to eliminate as many trips as I can. The boat is just far better off going to someone that will enjoy it. I would even entertain the idea of a trade for the boat if I got something smaller and of more use to me right now. It's not a matter of the cash, my motivation to sell is driven by the shear bulk of the move. I basically need to lighten the load and thin the herd so to speak.

Being that I spent many years in light fabrication and as many years in a truck repair shop, my collection of tools is also huge, not to mention tractors, bikes, machinery, and other toys I've accumulated over the years. I've considered just selling off everything and rebuying what I need again after the move but most of the items I own were bought long enough ago for far less than I could ever afford to spend these days to replace them with now. There are many of my items which simply cost far more in today's market and with today's current state of the economy, I'd not likely get much if I sold what I already own. Welders, milling machines, lathes, and other metal working tools which I accumulated and fine tuned over the years just cost far more than they did say 30 years ago and to be honest, most items I own just can't be bought anymore.

If the cost of living wasn't so high here I'd stay put but every time I get a tax bill that exceeds what the place cost me years ago, I get re-motivated to uproot and leave this state.

I've also always believed in being self sufficient, I do everything myself. If I can't I buy the tools and learn how. I've all too often paid to have something done that I either didn't wish to do or didn't have the equipment to do myself only to find that it wasn't done anywhere close to my satisfaction. I learned a long time ago that if you want it done right, do it yourself.
Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist, but that thinking has always served me well.

Re: To sell or not to sell? AGAIN?

After relisting the boat now for the better part of the week I've gotten offers as high as $200 for it.
Do people really think that a boat and trailer listed at $1500 would get sold for $200?

I even put in one ad that I'd consider a partial trade for a smaller boat and that I'd sell just the boat but not a single legitimate reply. One guy did offer to trade me for a non working guitar amp and used coffee maker.

At this point I think the boat is either getting parted out or I'll have to consider just removing the cabin and setting it up more like a the Holiday model.
I need to see or get some measurements from a Holiday to see if these hulls are the same first.

Of course, if I remove the cabin and upper windshield, the full enclosure I got with the boat when I got it back would be somewhat useless without some modification.

Lol had to work hard to get so never let it go. We also have a home in Northern Idaho at a big lake. 2 bdr-. boat house and a 50 ft dock. Havet been there for two years. It takes time to collect that stuff and dam hard to let it go. Good luck .where do you plan to move to?

I'm looking at going south, somewhere in south/central FL, somewhere near the water where I have access to both fresh and saltwater there. I've been spending several months every year down there and have been looking far more seriously over the past few years. I have a place to go now but I'm looking for something bigger with some space, which means heading farther inland.

I've got several friends that have already made the move, one who has already made the offer to let me use several large buildings he owns there which were farm buildings, I already have a boat and truck there, but it's not one I intend to keep once I move there.
The deeper V hull of the Starchief and the closed cabin just don't fit the type of fishing I'd be doing down in FL. Up here, in the winter a cabin boat is great but in this state they ban gas motors in non tidal waters except for a few lakes and larger rivers. When I was in PA, I lived on a large lake where the Starchief was right at home, I could dock it out back of my house or trailer it to any of about 10 area lakes, all of which make any of the lakes here look like puddles. I mostly use my 14' tinny here for freshwater and even back bay fishing here, if I go out into bigger water, I've got a buddy with a big boat. Also, since I've got my Duratech, which measures just over 17', and is wide open, it will no doubt fill the need for a slightly larger open boat here for now, as well as when I move.
I'd even consider trading the Starchief for something more fishing friendly. Something I'm thinking would work well down there and here would be a larger modified V bass boat hull with a side console. Something in the 16-17' range and flat bottomed. Something more freshwater suited that could be powered here with a trolling motor and there with about a 25hp to 35hp or so motor.
