Greetings -

I'm planning on purchasing my first motoryacht in a few months, and just posted a thread asking for some opinions on what to buy. Since this is kind of a side question, I thought I'd open a new thread for it.

The question is whether or not to get a boat with an enclosed flybridge. Part of me wants that open, wind-in-your-face feeling, but another part of me is picturing running into some nasty squall and being thankful for the windshield and side protection. Both situations would have a canvas covering on top. And, granted, you can unzip portions of the windshield, but it's not quite the same as no windshield at all.

One option is an open flybridge and dual controls, but duals are fairly rare, and usually only the larger motoryachts have them. Since there's just me aboard, I've been looking in the 31' to 34' range, so dual controls probably won't be an option. That means I get my buns soaked if I have an open flybridge and run into one of those delightful Florida downpours we're so famous for. Five inches of rain in two hours? Bah! A mere sprinkle.

Any thoughts on this, fellow boaters?

Thanks,
Joe
Lakeland, FL
