Re: To start up engine or not?

My concern with running a 2 stroke outboard in cold temp is that I have no idea how well the oil mixed with the gas protects at or near freezing temps. I suspect it will be just fine but I sure would feel better waiting until the temps are in the 50's.

2 stroke oils are good down to -10 degree F. I've run mine in temps in the mid teens with no problems

A lot of snowmobiles are 2 cycle. There never seemed to be an issue with them, and they are run in real cold weather.

Boy am I glad I didn't run it yet. With the temps and snowflakes the last few days, thinking about getting the sled out...

Yeah I'm glad I didn't run my engine either. I just had some snow last night too. As a previous poster stated to watch the long term forecast I figured id wait. Probably wont start it till a week or two

Outboards as already stated, don't really care what the temps are, not sure why there is any concerns about temps and running one, but it's your motor, run it as you see fit I guess. You also never mentioned what you were running, Outboard or I/O.
We are on the Detroit River already fishing, have been for a week. And yes we run outboards, and it's been well below freezing every night this week. Hope this helps.
