I accidentally left the fuel vent closed when using the motor the other night on my sailboat. The engine started as normal and ran normal for a minute or 2 and then started missing a few times and then quit. It would start but then quit. Once back in the slip, I realized the fuel vent was closed and figured the engine may have some type of vapor lock. I opened the vent and it wouldn’t,t start. I tried it again to and still won’t start. Before I start pulling hoses and carbs out to see if there’s blockage I would like to know if there’s another path I should try first.

Make sure the vent is actually open. There is a neoprene type washer inside the vent, and that might have stuck to the body of the cap. Then crack the drain screw on the carb to see if fuel dribbles out. If not, you are not getting gas, and you need to find out why. If it has gas, the vent is not an issue.
