going to a 9 would reduce the power might increase speed if the motor can still turn up to its designed rpm.
Your results would depend on what the motor is on and your typical load.
If your hoping to improve your overall performance weight reduction and placement is critical.If your having trouble planing; a tiller extension so you can sit in the middle seat will help and probably improve max speed as well.
