My 2009 tohatsu 8hp came with a 8.5"-8" prop, can anyone tell me what I would gain or loose by putting a 9" pitch on it. Thanks

oopps, posted this here before I saw the "prop" section.

Re: tohatsu prop

Remember to always use the model when referring to service issues with a Tohatsu/Nissan motor. You likely have model MFS8A3. Should have come with a 3-blade 7-pitch prop.

The prop selector guide is online at http://www.tohatsu.com/accessories/prop.html

Depending on how light your boat is, a 9 pitch may get you some more top speed.

As usual, more pitch=higher top speed, less pitch=more hole shot. Too much pitch will prevent you from achieving correct WOT RPM. Too little may cause you to exceed the correct WOT RPM. In the case of the 8/9.8, the rev limiter would then engage, hopefully before you throw a connecting rod through the block.
