i need to add a hinge to the tounge of my trailer so it will fit in the garage. with 10% of the weight on the tounge i dont have enuf room for the hinge. i saw somewhere on here that someone said tounge weight could be between 7-10%. i have enuf room for the hinge with 8.65% of the weight on the tounge. and its a single axel trailer. before i start cutting.....is this acceptable?

That 7% is minimum, Matt. I think 8.65% would be okay.

do you have and adjustable axle? then you can get what you really need.

Can't you install the hinge without adding or subtracting tongue length?

not in my application. the distance between the winch and where the tongue fattens up for the ball wasn't long enuf at 10%...but at 8.65% i had just enuf room. all done now and it turned out great.
