So here I am at home - birthday today. I ALWAYS have gone to the lake on my birthday but this heat wave we are having in Atlanta is driving me crazy. It has been about 93+ every day for the last couple of weeks. Years ago, I never would have had an excuse of it being too hot to boat. The last couple of years it has happened numerous times but usually in July or August. This heat in the early summer has me wondering what it will be like in a couple of months. Do you stay away from the water because it is too hot? I think it me today that I have about 11 years and then the last of the kids should be out of college and THEN I can get a bigger boat with air conditioning...

Man up. I boated at 118 F last year, heck every year we see 115+ on the Colorado River from the Grand Canyon south. It is true what they say though, the Desert Southwest's dry heat is different. There's no question about that, but 118 kicks your azz no matter how you slice it.

SB,

Happy Birthday!! I'm up in Nashville and it's about the same up here - miserable. Weeks of over 90? and no sign of relief in the forecast ... and it just hit JUNE! I'm afraid of what August might look like at this rate.

Still think I'd brave the lake though.

Add 85% humidity to that 115 and see how well you can breath! I man up nicely in the recliner right next to the AC vent!

Mid to upper 90's, with lots of humidity! If you like to go at night, the wind has been laying down nicely, almost like glass the last few nights, not alot of traffic through the week. Are you familiar with the Lynn Haven area?

Just be thankful you've got water in Lake Lanier. You've got another 5-8 degrees until you hit max Summer temperature.

If it's too hot to boat, surely you can find a bar/restaurant out on Holiday Road to enjoy the sunset from. Maybe they'll put a little hat on you, bring you a cupcake with a candle and sing Happy Birthday. This day only comes about once per year. Enjoy!

No ,not really, just pass through on the way in. Love night-boating, but all the shallows in the bay, man, I'm just not comfortable with at night. I'd go out the pass from Capt-Andersons at night, but anything back towards Hathaway, I'm just not fimiliar enough with to do at night.

Any time you come to FL in summer you want to come to Clearwater area because it's usually the only place in the state where you can still breathe. Even there you've got to stay near the water. Venturing more than a mile away from the coast and it's "get ready for the sauna". Started early down here too. Usually we get 3 weeks at least of low 80's. Not this year. State is dry as a bone so travel accordingly and keep an eye on the fires. They're not bad "yet" but that's going to change.

OP, I feel you. Our "winter" is usually July through end of August. We keep our boats in the shade. Going outside means you take your life into your own hands, lol. (figuratively, of course)

I understand that, I have everything plotted in the GPS, yes it will get shallow in a hurry, from 20' to 2' right now! Hope you and your family enjoy your stay while your here! I'll bet as hot as it has gotten this early in the year we'll see a few big storms this year...
