Too much fuel filtering?

I recently added a Tempo fuel/water seperator to my 40hp merc. There is also a regular filter at the motor after the fuel pump that is OEM. Is it possible to filter the gas too much? I don't want to starve the engine for fuel by having too many filters inline. Thanks for any info.

good question
and i have wondered the same thing, i think there could be a problem if your fuel pump is "weak" so i installed a new pump too...

Hi, Paul.

I suppose it is possible to have too much restriction from filters for a weak fuel pump, but I don't think you are anywhere close as long as you clean/flush them regularly.

Good luck. :)

Re: Too much fuel filtering?

Seeing that my motor is a 2000, I don't think my fuel pump will be too weak (I hope). Can I take the fuel filter at the motor out and just run off of the fuel/water seperator? Thanks

I would run both. The Tempo filter has so much surface area it would have to be seriously clogged to impede flow. The factory filter will be a good backup in case a piece of crud dislodges when you change/inspect your spin on filter.
