I have a old boat I'm looking to redo the deck and transom. What tools do I need to get to remove the deck and transom. It is a fiberglass boat.

circular saw, angle grinder, maybe a jig saw. If it is really rotted you hands will work:laugh::facepalm:

Oh, I forgot; welcome to the dry dock. If you don't know post a pic of the problem and someone on here will know the answer or find it for you. You need to start a thread on the restore section.

I used cutting wheels, sand disk and flappers.

Using my air chisel to remove foam,set really low with a wide chisel.

What cutting wheels do I need to get to cut the fiberglass? I have half the deck removed. Someone before me cut into the deck. I can pull the foam out real easy. What sand disks and flappers I need?

Thin ones preferably. Course grit for removal. Most common used is 24 and 36 grit.

If this is your first time it wouldn't hurt to get some 80 grit and see how it cuts thru the material, once you figure out and get use to grinding you will be comfortable with the courser grit. Do be surprised if you get into the hull, just about everyone has done it at least once.

Not sure if this tool will help you with any part of your project, but I bought an oscillating tool. In my project I needed to do some flush to floor cutting. This worked great. Bought it from Harbor Freight, came with a straight cut blade, a half circle cutting blade, a flat scraper, and a triangle shaped sander. Again, not sure it will fit any of your needs, but worked well for me.

I think you maybe looking at one a little to thin. I had a hard time finding the ones for fiberglass if it had a rough edge I used it.

Those work to from what I have been told, I just didn't use one. If I do another boat I will be using one they are great from what I been told.

+1! I bought one of these. Only used it in a few situations, but when I did nothing else would work. A sawzall is perfect for stringer removal. I have used a grinder with metal grinding disc, like what comes with the grinder, for cutting and some grinding. Also used a rubber backer pad and 24 grit paper. Flap discs wear out too quick to be much use IMO. I have also used a circular saw and a jigsaw, as mentioned. A good ol hammer and chisel will be handy.

I "dug" my foam out with a round point shovel. No pun in...well, yes it was

What kind of fiberglass boat are you working on Fizz? Pictures we all like to see pictures of what is being worked on and the work being done on here.

You will not regret getting & using a respirator face mask while grinding. You will need one during putback when you're using poly resin anyway.

Dust masks aren't really up to the challenge during grinding either.
