Re: Tooth Whitening

Zoom is a type of system for bleaching the teeth. It is a product that is supposed to be enhanced by a specific light wave to create a faster bleaching effect. The studies so far show all ends of the spectrum on Zoom bleaching. They show it works, they show it is just a gimmick, and they also show it bealches about as well as other products on the market. I myself have stayed away from it. For Zoom bleaching to work you have to stay in the office for a 1-2 hours while they prep you with materials and shine the light on your teeth. To me it seems to be more of a gimick with instant gratification. They use high concentrations of bleach to get fast results. I am not kosher with this as I often see sensitivity with these cases. The light is no more than a blue light to sell it. Kind of like a bug zapper to mosquitoes. I can also tell you that most offices charge a little more for it. This is because of the extra products, the cost of the light ($8k-$12k) and the chair time. To me I can make a $1000 for a crown in a little more than an hour so if I was going to have you sitting in that same chair for an hour I have to make money......this drives the price up. Now if I offer you the $300 bleach trays you do at home or the $800 in office bleach you tell me where you put your money......

Re: Tooth Whitening

A couple years ago I tried the Crest White Strips. I literally put holes in my gums after a couple strips. I quickly stopped using them.

Re: Tooth Whitening

Crest white strips contain a Peroxide derivative. If you cover the gums with them they will oxidize the area and eventually cause blisters and such. If you don't believe me then place on on your finger for 3-5 minutes......it will begin to turn white.

As with anything there is a time and place for their use. If you have pretty straight teeth and are looking for something cheap and a little whiter then use them by all means. If you have crooked teeth or are looking for a bright white then they are not for you.
