I just bought this boat and it has a 92' 25h four stroke suzuki on it! I was told to sell it and get a merc or evenrude but I wanted to atleast try it first. Anyway when i put it in the water yesterday I got it to start and idle but after a few minutes would die. I adjusted the carbs and finally got it going but when put into gear would die almost imediately, but if I held the choke out a quarter of the way it would run fine. I could open full throttle and would run great but when idled down would die. I checked the fuel line and was good but when I got home I checked the plugs "which is a 3 cylinder by the way" and the two bottom plugs were brown but the top was as clean as they were when i put them in, they were new plugs i put it just before i took it out. I also smelled them and I couldn't really smell to much gas I could oil. My question would be how can I find the problem? would it be a carb problem, the coil or something else and how can I check to make sure it is firing? I'm not familar with boat motors and would like to get this motor running good so my kids and I can go out without any worries! I would really appreciate and insight thank you!

Being not familiar with that motor, My guess would be it has 3 carbs and the top one needs attention, and it would be a good idea to go through all of them and then adjust properly. It may take equipment you do not have. Pick up a service manual for that motor and read up on it and what it takes to do it properly
