Kia Ora,

I have a 1985 30hp evinrude, 1985 on a 14ft tinnie..
Last time we were out, I got the boat record ( 14lb snapper) but got a real bad vibration through the boat and the power head end has a heap of play.
It looks to me that the rubber mounts from the gudgeon that holds the mid section of the shaft are really loose.
Will I have to remove the powerhead to replace these?? Or is it just a case of removing the two mounts and replacing them.

Cheers.

If the two sides mounts are broken, chances are the front top one is shot, too. Typically, that one goes first, then the side ones go.

You don't need to pull the powerhead to replace them, but you do need to undo the bottom mounts in the horseshoe to get to the top one. The top middle rubber mount is accessible through a hole under the carry handle base. The mid and powerhead assembly will pull up and out once all the mounts are unbolted.

Put the engine at the 'back' with the mounting/swivel bracket up.
Remove/loosen lower and upper as described above and lift up the bracket. One problem might occur, the element bolts are soft and may break off when removing the nuts so wait to order parts until you have it all loose and see what you need.

PS:
Note the different part numbers for the mounts depending on engine type. (short/long/manual/electric)
The long and electric have harder mounts.
