Top speed for Merc 50

What would you expect a 1985 Merc 50 (4 cyl) to peak at in knots ?<br />This is on a 4.5M half cab with 2 on board and full tanks .<br />I've had it to 4000 rpm, but forgot to look at speedo !!!!

I cant help much with your speed but if you are maxing out at 4,000 your too low,motor is either short on power or you are over propped.<br /> Not good with metric but I figure your boat is<br />about 15 ft.Not sure what 1/2 cab is But if aluminum it sure seems about 28 knots would be easy. Fiberglass a little slower.<br /> Not good to run with too much prop its tough on your motor.Find out the max. reccommended wot<br />rpm and prop for that range with your typical load.

Thanks Spike<br /><br />I'm an Aussie, please excuse my strange expressions.. It wasn't peaked at 4000 rpm, just had it running quick with a little throttle to go. It isa fibreglass boat with semi-cabin front probably about 500kg (1000 lbs)4.5 metres(15ft)

I get about 30 knots out of my Merc 50 4 cyl 2 carb, with a 13foot RIB.<br /><br />Stuart
