i am new to the boating world and trailers period. my question is this, how do you check a torsion suspension to see if it is good still. when i towed the boat home the tires were rubbing the insides of teh fenders (inside top) when i would hit a rise in the road. should i replace the axle or just take off teh fenders?

You should do neither until you determine if the trailer is overloaded -- meaning the boat is too heavy for the trailer. There should be a tag on the trailer frame indicating what the load capacity is with a given set of tires. Then check the tires to see if perhaps (as an example) 14 inch wheels and tires replaced the 13's that were originally installed. Knowing what boat you have, the make, model, and load capacity of the trailer would certainly help since we can't see it.

also check the axle itself. It should be stamped on it somewhere, might have to look carefully.
