I have a 89 40 hp that I am trying to replace the manual tilt with a power tilt and trim unit. The bottom pivot rod doesn't want to come out. I have sprayed it with wd40 and can get a little movement back and forth by tapping with a hammer. i am afraid to hit it too hard for fear of breaking the motor mount. Looking underneath I thought I saw a set screw but it may also be a zerk fitting hole. Any one got any ideas?

Re: Touch-Trim removal

That's a common problem. The cure is usually a hand held propane torch with a blow torch tip, used to heat the aluminum surrounding that steel pin. The heat makes the aluminum expand somewhat, easing its grip on the pin.
