I use the touch type system, but even after serving as a Battery Clerk on a HAWK site in a three year hitch in the Army I am still a poor typist. I prefer to keep my eyes on the screen and make corrections in real time. There are those who type much faster than I, my fourteen year old daughter for example, who has never had a typing class. She uses the hunt and peck, but types with both hands and several fingers. I freely admit that the only class in college that I legitmately flunked was typing. What is your method?

My system is similar to your daughter's . . . I look at the keyboard (absolutely stinks in the dark) and wail away on it. I am actually pretty dern fast. I usually edit in kinda paragraph chunks. I can't look up at the screen and not fix glaring errors . . .

Do you ever get the feeling that the keyboard is haunted when you read what you wrote. nine time out ten your is you, no is now or know is no. Yikes.......

Yes, and there are some words that I'll never get right. For example, first time around I always leave the second "e" out of believe. I don't when I write it, only when I type it. Muscle memory thing . . . Same thing with saem . . .

I had to pick touch, I didnt want to be called a 'pecker'. <br /><br />I use touchtyping, until I get to numbers, then its ten key.

Number row keys are not troublesome for me, but if you will notice I spelled out the numbers, moving from the home keys some times results in other errors that ordinarily would have been avoided. Also, going to the upercase key and using contractions slows me down and though it may seem a bit formal I will type do not rather than don't same number of keystrokes. I learned to type on a manual typwriter and used use the letter l as one, some of you oldtimers may have seen a typwriter without the numeral 1. Those curious enough to try and find me out may know that my email address (one of them) is backspacer.<br />I have paraphrased the old joke about the secretary who couldn't type very fast but she could erase 80 words a minute......

I passed typing 1 in high school typing 10 words a minute with 6 errors, I drank a lot of beer with the typing teacher and her daughter. I did learn to touch type but have to backup and do a lot of corrections. but I do look at the letters on the key board while typing. No corrections here ,as written.

I know how to type but am much faster with the hunt & peck. 2 hands and several fingers method, and 10 key for the #'s.

I have to look at the keyboard but I have improved alot due to this forum. Before Iboats typing was a struggle and non-existant if someone stood over my shoulder. <br /><br />Oh and I use almost all of my fingers.

60+ wpm. <br />I love keyboarding. <br />My mother can do 100wpm, talk on a telephone, cook a 4 course meal, smack me for mis-behaving, and still make no errors whilst typing.

Bit of both I think? I've got to watch the keyboard but I'm not particularly slow at it-I usually only watch one key or area whatever I'm typing just to keep the spatial awareness of where the keys are. It's kinda like-well the brake pedal is THERE therefore the accellerator is going to be THERE. sounds a bit wierd but it works ok for me.<br /><br />for some reason it just took me 5 times longer than normal to type that

i don't look, but i only use my two pointers and thumbs. sort of peck and peck. pretty damn fast, just funny looking.

I touch type, and like jt, I'm not completely accurate. Unlike jt I make many more than two corrections. I can hardly read through all the white-out on the monitor.
