Actually, 1000 pounds means don't tow anything over 1000 pounds. My first boat was a "sunfish" style sail boat. I pulled it with a Dodge Colt. My second boat was a Hobie Cat. Boat, trailer and rigging was well under 1000 pounds on either of those. (BTW, I did not pull the Hobie with the dodge colt, but I did pull it with an Aires K-car wagon.) There are some vehicles out there with no tow rating. That is auto speak for "do not tow". That said, I would not plan on towing much of anything with a 1000 pound rating, and certainly not a 2500 pound package.
