The white wire HAS to be grounded on both the vehicle AND the trailer. And as stated above, when you attach the white wire terminal to the trailer, clean off any paint, rust or any other material to get a good connection.

^^^From my experience all of that is absolutely 100% correct. On any electrical circuit AC or DC, the ground is just as important as the positive. It is also the first one people forget about when there is an issue.

Nowadays, there's more bolted trailers as they found that welded ones eventually fail at the weld. They're stucturally better (the bolted ones) but easily loose ground at the junction points because of rust. I, too, prefer dedicated ground wire to each important lights (the tail lights), but skip them for the side marker, as they add too much wire...

Noalox. Is this the (Anti Oxidant)required by the NEC on aluminum to copper wire?
