1. What are some of the shorter trailer options that I are available that would fit my 18? Lund Tyee boat?

I'd like something older and more economical, and would likely look to modify it with a swing tongue (sway tongue) to gain whatever extra length I can in my garage.

2. Are there some styles\models that the swing tongue can accommodate more based on the design\placement of the winch stand on the trailer?

I just purchased my first boat, a 1989 Lund Tyee 1850, boat is 18'3?. It came with a Shorelandr roller trailer which is adjustable, looks like it can accommodate another 1.5 feet of boat length, judging by how much further forward the winch stand can move forward, and the stickered measurement on the tongue.

Given the depth of my garage, 23', this is not going to fit. The total trailer length I believe is about 23', so with the boat on the trailer, from the back prop to the front of the trailer it's 25'+.

Most trailers I see posted for sale just list the over length of the trailer and the sellers don't know the model so it's hard for me to lookup if they'll fit my boat. I'm not sure if there is a certain distance that should be subtracted for each manufacturer of trailer to figure out what is the size of boat will fit. Or maybe this depends on manufacturer and model.

3. Or am I just better off modifying my existing trailer with a swing tongue? I can see some issues in that I'm limited as to how far back I can move the tongue Jack back on my trailer and perhaps there is less distance between the winch stand and the boat on other manufactures and models of boats.

Thanks for any advice.

Try searching 'swing tungue' at the top of the page. I remember seeing where a member did it.

Have a look at a EZ Loader 17-19 low water launch single axle trailer with a Fulton Fold-Away swing adapter. Or you can just buy the kit and use a 4 1/2" grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut your current tounge and put it on. Just follow the instructions in the box and you can have it done in an hour and 1/2. You will need longer chains because they have to tie back the the main portion of the tounge. I don't do it because that swing away is probably stronger than the bolts that bolt the main tounge to the frame.

Regarding the low water launch trailers. Once you own one you will be amazed at how easy it is to launch and you don't have to resort to rollers.

Pics of your existing trailer would help.????

Thanks for the response Mi duckdown.

I have attached what couple pictures I have on hand. I can get others in a few days if needed to show the tongue better. These pictures aren't a great representation of the length of the tongue, it's close to 4' from the winch stand. to the front of the trailer. I don't know if its recommended/safe to put that much tongue after a swing tongue.

Thanks for the response and trailer suggestion Jlawsen.

I looked at the EZ loader site and their current trailers. I see they have trailers that will hold up to a 18' boat and the total length is 19'4"...not sure if that is with the swing tongue run back or not.

Another option bleazie would be to shorten the tounge and add a swing adapter. To shorten the trailer you would probably have to have the axle relocated back also which I believe is easily done with your trailer and the way the axle is attached.

Jlawson, nice trailer. Still don't think it's low enough for me and the way I use my trailer and also the gravel ramps. I have to use my tilt probably 90% of the time because it's that shallow.
