I've never locked mine up past a simple tiny lock on the coupler. I just bought a new boat :D and I am planning to lock the hitch pin and the coupler. I am also hoping that I can get a lock on it so that when it is sitting in the boat yard it doesn't get stolen. Bought the lock but can't get to the boat for another 3 weeks...

Hello everyone,,

Super thrilled to pick up our new Starcraft Toon tomorrow on new galvanized Shorelandr tandom with breaks.... fear is.. if I was a criminal, I'd sure like to steal the trailer off my tow vehicle while I was in the lake floating around.... that said.. I've got locking pin and also want to purchase case hardened chain to run though the trailer frame back to the hitch holes. Abus? any other security chain you guys are aware of I should consider. thanks much...

I use a hitch lock and a replacement value insurance policy.

If they want it that bad, they can have it

This type thread appears on here every now and then. Answer is, personally, I have never ever heard of even one boater coming back in and finding their trailer gone. However, a simple lock on the trailer hitch and one for the receiver hitch pin, if you have that type setup, is basically all you can do realistically. With so many trailers in the ramp parking lot, others will notice if some one is cutting either lock off for sure. A little trust in humanity is needed as well. JMHO

Yup, I was just going to say didn't we just do this one about a week ago?

Yes we did.

We forgot to mention in that thread to rent off duty Paul Blart, Mall Cop.

All these questions about protecting a trailer and not one OP has asked about protecting the contents of the tow vehicle. More cars and trucks are broken into than trailers stolen.

Not much of a pawn market for stolen boat trailers. Smash-and-grab of anything in the vehicle makes way more sense!

When is tomorrow? May 11th, the day after the first quote or June 1st, the day after today.

OK - Which one do I ban? Is Macgomes punking us?

Starcraft5834 Did you start this second thread? You've obviously picked up your new toon cuz you posted about the sliding seat.

I combined both threads because of the verbatim 2nd post. I'll clean this thread up when you let me know.

You people writing these post must be living in a really bad part of the country. I live here in Eureka Ca. one of the busiest salmon and halibut fishing port's on the north coast, and supposedly the highest drug related city in California. I've also worked on boats for the last 20 years and have never heard of one trailer being stolen at a boat ramp, and have never seen one chained or locked. Sad place this country is coming to when there is no punishment for the crimes being committed.

It doesn't matter where you live, its just freekin common sense. I personally know of stolen trailers, but only because it happened to 2 friends of mine. If I hadn't known them, then I might think its not possible either.

They make locks for that specific purpose. I wonder why? Also, why is there a hole in the coupler? Just to keep it from rattling loose?

Furthermore, 51 years ago when I started in the sport I read the Trailer Boats Manual cover to cover. Security was a whole chapter in the book. Goodenuf for me......LOL. (boy I wish people would read things these days - it sure would save a lot of trouble at the launch ramp)

99.9% of the time I lock the tongue at ramps but forgot once. When boating back to the ramp my trailer was attached to a pick up truck pulling up from the ramp. The winch cable was connected to another half submerged pickup truck to pull it out. A very lively confrontation happened but i let it slide because it was the groom of a wedding party at the club house. First and last time I forgot to lock my trailer.
