I have a chance to get a 14ft valco make that I am going to get it. I can get it for almost nothing it comes with and 18 hp. outboard and a trailer the brackets are broke that hook to the transom and it has loose rivets I plan on replacing the brackets and was wondering how hard is it to replace the rivets? I will also paint the inside and outside should help seal everthing I hope. Help would be welcome Thanks (Mike)

Re: Transom aluminum valco

Never had an aluminum boat, but I read in the forum a few times that leaky rivets can be "tightened" with a hammer and dolly. Do a search on this forum and you will probably find a few posts about it.

Basically a hand held anvil is pressed against one side of the rivet, then it is struck by a hammer from the other side. Compresses the rivet and seals the leak.

Re: Transom aluminum valco

I'm confused. I recently purchased an 18' Valco Bayrunner and it is a welded hull; no rivets, I thought this was Valco's claim to fame. Valco hull ID numbers start with HULO..., mine is stamped outside starboard stern.

Best of luck with it.
