I am trying to come up with the most acurate way to cut wood for housing?
Should I mount in boat then drill and cut?
use cardboard template that was made on tear out?
or use pieces of old transom for template??

you can use the old transom wood or make a cardboard template. what ever is easier for you.

the i.o keyhole is cut out after its all glassed in.

mxcobra, I made these, but I already had the 1/8 masonite in my garage. I traced the inner and outer transom plates.
The patterns made it easy to layout the transom and they are dead on. I could have done it much quicker by tracing the the hull, however I take pride in always doing things the hard way:D. You'd think I would learn.

I didn't get a good spec from the cardboad. I would use foam sheets.

on the full transom....you just need to get close....the filler and the glass will take up the rest. your tolerances are as much as 1/2 inch......so its no big deal.

the outer cut out is already there....so just follow the key hole pattern in the skin. that is easy.

Not to sound stupid but why does the key hole have to be cut out after the transoms all glassed in?
