Transom problems !

I just did some test drilling and found wet and black wood in the left side Motor mount top and bottom . it seems to be wet very deep and the boat has been out of the water for 6 months .some water came out when I was drilling the transom . Is there a way to dry it out or inject to repair with out a major replacment repair ? none of the glass has bubble or cracked and I knocked on the transom and seemed like there no hollow spots or soft spots . . , Would I need to fix this now or could I be able to use it one more summer then fix next year ? I have a 20 ' bayliner trophy walk around, would it be to costly to repair it ? or should I just look for a other hull for my frest rebuilt 2000 175 johnson ? Thank's JJB

sorry typical Bayliner problem., and probably stringers also. if wet, means rotten, i would not hang my engine on it. without complete transom rebuilt. if you like the boat, fix it. if you don't hunt another, but beware, you may be buying another transom that is going bad.

I do like the boat I guess had it for 15 yrs and I do agree about just buying more problems, I been looking and most used boats in my price range are not in very good shape but will looking a little more before I replace the transom . If the stringers are rotted can they be repaired ? Any more good info about bayliner boats I should know about , Just in case I go foward on this project ? What would a project like this cost me if I do it myself ? Thanks JJB

i agree with Bondo, you'll have a boat better than it was new. and should last you another 20 years.cost 1,500 to 2,500. depends on how good a shopper you are and don't waste any material

The boat has been so good to me , 16 yrs of 10 - 25 miles offshore fishing , I think I owe her one . The rest of the boat is in great shape ! So it look's like I am leaning towards rebuilding the transom . Besides , where can you get a boat for 20' boat for $2000 that's like new ? plus to have this form for input that is a great help , can't go wrong . oh , how long should it take a pro to do the job ? thanks for the input JJB

The time it would take a pro to do it really depends on the pro, how busy he is and how much he works on it. As I recall my 23'er was out of service for a couple of weeks.
