Transom Question

I'm rebuilding the transom on a 14' Dorsett runabout, 50 hp, ss, Seaking outboard. I'm using two pieces of 3/4 cdx sandwiched together. Anyway, today, I cut my transom pieces and put them in place. No glue, just checking to see they fit. I noticed that they wouldn't fit snug against the fiberglass shell and I really had to lean on the glass to get them to tighten up. Is this normal? Also, I've read that you guys use a mixter of resin and sawdust(peanutbutter) to fill the gaps. Is that correct? Do I resin the inside of my sandwiched pieces before I glue them? Do I resin the part of the rebuilt wood transom that will be glued to the fiberglass. I've looked on the forums but I can't find these answers. Thanks in advance.

If you do a search you'll see that what your experiencing is fairly common.

Using assorted clamps, screws and bolts is how you get to all flat so it will make good contact.

Bedding the ply in a layer or two of mat or putty works to bond it all together. Mat with polyester resin, putty with epoxy.

The best way is to screw and clamp the skin to the new transom to snug the two together.

I use thixotrophic powder to mix with epoxy for my pb. Got it from Merton's.

I used PL Premium to glue my wood so I did not apply resin prior to gluing. I wanted a wood, glue, wood bond.

I wouldn't hesitate to use PL Premium on a transom, it worked out great on everything else I used it on.
Especially like the 30 minute reposition window. Good stuff.
