I finally figured out how to post pics thanks to Xcusme. Anyway, I've got a 14' 1963 Dorset Ski bird. I've had it for just over a year and did a lot of work to her, except for the transom. Anyway, after reading all the great info on this forum, I decided to go for it. I removed the engine, splashwell and the transom cap with no problems. This is what I found. It actually came out pretty easy with a hammer and large screwdriver. The original transom was 1". I used 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood screwed and glued together with PL premium. I've got it fitted to the boat and I was wondering what you guys thought if I glued the transom to the fiberglass with PL premium? It just seems to be much easier to work with. I'm planning on glassing the transom in around the edges with fiberglass mat. Also, I'm going to use PB to fill the edges. The flooring in the boat is teak plywood and the only stringer, which runs down the center, is also teak. That teak was in excellant shape! Not bad for 46 yrs. They laid the plywood directly over the glass hull, then glassed over the plywood. More pics and questions to come. Great forum!

Re: Transom Rebuild

You will think I have lost my marbles (you might be right :) ) but just about anything that seals the transom to the fiberglass will work. Remember "most" outboards are bolted through and consider the stress on the transom.

Once the wood is sealed and then I would tab and fiberglass it to the sides and bottom of the hull.
