Wasted money on a survey ????-----You have the choice of materials to use when you do it yourself.------The one I am doing will not rot again !!!-----I see many newer boats on the junk pile too.------And the newer designs are harder to fix than some older / simpler designs-

Yeah it was $50 and he was extremely knowledgeable although if the mechanic had spent more time explaining the issue to me I think I could have saved the money. I just didn't like the way it went down (started leaking when it was out for repair) and wanted a 2nd opinion. If it had been taking on water when I was using it and brought to the shop for that I wouldn't have had the surveyor take a look. He wasn't going to tell me what to do but I can tell he was leaning towards moving on from it as is my wife. This could be a short thread from here.

A bit more even if we rebuild the transom I already know I need cam seals and there are likely a plethora of 30_ year old parts on the boat that could be close to failure. I would actually love to take on the project (to be honest) but can't see it fitting time wise or financially right now. Maybe I'll hold onto the boat until next bring and re-evaluate the situation. What is the bare minimum that needs to be done for winterization (let the water out).
