i have a 1967 6 cyl 95 hp merc that is quite heavy. today i bought a transom saver but then noticed a warning saying not to use it with motors that dont power lift. it claimed it could cause damage to the lower unit. is this really a problem?
I think I would believe that they know what they are talking about.<br /><br />No hydraulic pressure to cushion any shocks to the lower end could allow bad bumps to break something.
thats what i was thinking as well... but, i am stuck with this huge motor on an older boat and not sure what would be the best way to protect everything.
worst thing it could do is "bounce off"<br />and allow your lower unit to hit the street..<br />doesnt you motor have a tilt up lock ??<br />if not , place a 1x4 between the clamp bracket and motor bracket with it raised up ..<br />then do a bungee strap from the lower unit to the trailer..<br />then you can drive fast and not be carefull
yeah, the motor does lock raised up - just wanted to do whatever else i could. i could see that the boucing of the motor could cause damage when using the transom saver since it attaches to the lower unit. seems like it would cause extra stress no matter how you drive.
