transom saver

I have a 12 foot jon boat with a 9.9 on the back. Is a transom saver necessary or just added money into the pit.

Me either. Just tilt it up so the weights directly over the transom when you're trailering and go on.

i'd go with one if you trailer long distances. a cheap strap on type won't break the bank and will help if you hit a pothole or something.<br /><br />if you just trailer a few minutes to your local fishing hole, probably don't need it.<br /><br />good luck-

Claden<br />I would trailer with the motor down and locked unless it is so low you think it could hit the ground. If it is a Johnson or Evinrude 1974 or later it only weights 74 lb.

Certainly trailer with it in the lowered position so that it locks in place. Depending on your motor, you may have to put it in reverse to get it to lock down. <br /><br />If the motor might hit ground in driveways etc. Just take it off and lay it in the boat. It only takes 90 seconds.
