I recently restored a 1975 Wellcraft CC. It had a 70HP 1990 VRO Johnson when I bought it. I bought a new Yamaha 90HP four stroke. It weights about 100lbs more than the Johnson. I knew going into this that there was a huge risk of flexing the transom. NOTE: There was no Coast Guard sticker with the max HP ect. I checked the transom for rotten wood and everything looked perfect. The transom is about 2" maybe 2 1/4" thick. Long story short the boat sits just right in the water and handles the engine just fine. But When I apply too much torque at once I can see that the transom is flexing a little. I was thinking that I might fabricate some aluminum brackets that join the transome and main stringers together. My question is will this work and if so does anyone have any tips for how to accomplish this? I have attached a few pictures to aid you in helping me.
