I am looking for a good 20" transom hull. I have found several that I like on C-list but they have 25" transoms. I have been told that usually 20" transoms mean that they are salt water boats. Not that it matters since I will be using my engine but is this true?

Re: transon height

Nope. Transom height is not related to water type.

If you are looking for a 20" transom....then that is the target. Obviously you have a 20" leg on a motor;) that needs a boat.

Keep shopping.

Thanks Bob_VT, I am still looking. Hopefully as summer winds down, boats with bad engines may become easier to find and maybe cheaper LOL.

Actually, the opposite is true. 20" transoms are typically found on "bass boats" and "runabout" configurations. 95% of the SW boats are either 25" or 30" transoms.

Re: transon height

Tbird, Transom heights tended to get higher over the years, especially as the higher HP motors became available. Early boats (1950s) has 15" transom, boats in the 70s had 20" transoms and newer boats have 25" and 30" transoms. If you have a 20" motor(longshaft), you will find a boat for it. You might narrow your search to older boats(70s - 80s) since 20" transoms were most popular on them.
