Re: trigger and distributor?

What year and size model? To most people a trigger and distributor are the same thing? Be more detail so we can understand and give some advice.
Do you mean stator instead of trigger by any chance?

Re: trigger and distributor?

I think he meant distributor to switchbox. Also... the wires are most likely a case of rotted rubber - not crisply from heat.

Re: trigger and distributor?

I am calling it a trigger because it looks like the pictures of triggers when I look through the parts list on this site. It is black solid state part under the flywheel I assumed the distributor was where the plug wires came out of.

not positive of year think 84 50 hp 4 cyl.

thanks

sounds to me like one of the trigger wires is destroyed, would look under the flywheel at where the wires come out of the trigger, you probably need a new one. if they are toast at the switchbox, they probably are all the way back to the trigger ...

Re: trigger and distributor?

If the motor has a real distributor ignition... the trigger is IN the distributor. The 3 wires going to the port side of the switchbox are the trigger wires. That thing under the flywheel is just the stator - for charging the battery only on the older distributor ignition mercs.

Now if there are more than two wires coming out of that thing (anything)under the flywheel - all of the above is moot.

Agreed a serial number will help here.

Re: trigger and distributor?

I will try to get serial number tonite. It definetly is not the stator(which is directly under flywheel) trigger is under flywheel hub(previous post - removal problems) from what I gather I should be safe just replacing the trigger. next problem is htis site has just about every trigger listed except the one I need OEM # 96451 any help there

thanks again
