Trim and tilt problem

I just bought a boat with a 2000 Johnson 90 HP, the tilt and trim work fine but if left in the up position the motor will slowly fall. What do I have to do to fix this problem?

Start by making sure that the manual release screw is in shape, properly sealed and torqued to specifications.

BTW, it is better for the unit to be left on trail locks if stored in the tilted position.

I leave the boat moored in the water all season, and I do use the trail lock bracket when moored and never leave the motor up without support for any extended period of time. I will check the screw and hopefully that will fix the problem.
