TRIM GAUGE

Hey guys, I have a 1979 Evinude 70 hp with tilt & trim. Is there some way to install a gauge on the dash for the trim? Just thought it would be handy.. thanks for the help

Shouldn't be a problem if the sending unit is on the engine. The sender should be on the inside of the port side transom bracket. If you don't have one there, they are still available through your local John/Rude dealer. PN152154. Pricey at about $155. I would look around for a used one if I had to...... <br /><br />Hook up is easy....Just a hot wire to the gage and run the leads from the sender to the gage and connect. Pretty straight forward.

ok guys, this is what I found. The wires come from my tilt trim unit into back of boat where tank is. Wire goes into some kind of box about 4x6x2. Then from where....who the heck knows. What now? any suggestions? thanks again for all the info..

That box is likely to contain the solinoids for controlling the T&T. From there the cable should go to your T&T switch with wire colors of blue, green, and red/white I believe. Look for 2 extra wires there which should be brown or brown/white. These are the wires for the qauge. Did you find the sender on the inside of the port transom bracket? Little odd shaped box with a spring loaded arm and mounted with 2 screws.<br /><br />I added the sender and gauge to my boat and would not go without it now. Eliminates all guessing and keeps eyes forward for safety. Bought sender new for about $20 on Ebay. If you run in salt water you might want to purchase a spare as well. Salt water is hard on them.

PS. T&T gauge needs to be for OMC/Johnson/Evinrude. My understanding is that a gauge for another manufacturer like Mercury will operate backwards.

I didn't see anything like that. Just the motor with the 2 wires coming out of it from the t&t unit. I will look again tomorrow. Too cold and dark tonight.... thanks

Be prepared to have to drill and tap the mounting posts also. Part number for the sender is 582501. Good luck.
