I am trying to remove my Trim Limit and Position sensors and am having a hard time removing the screws (flat head) that hold the sensors on. Of the four screws I managed to get one out. I stripped one screw head and the other two won't budget. Any tips or tricks you guys have to getting these screws out?

Boat is Merc 5.0L V-8 Alpha Gen II

Thanks

Have you tried tapping the screwdriver witha hammer as you turn them?

Sounds like someone has removed them already and replaced them. The screws should have phillips heads.Use a good penetrating oil and let them set over night. If the senders are bad use a small propane torch and heat them up.Not too much then lube them again. Then tap with a hammer and let set.Keep the spray/heat/tapping going. Then it will slowly loosen them.If the senders are good then don't heat with torch.Jerry

Re: Trim Limit/Position Senders

Thanks for the info guys. I was able to remove a few more screws with it. I have now run into another issue. I am replacing the trim limit and position sensors and have successfully removed the bell housing. I have also removed the trim limit/position wire clamp in the transom. I can see that I can't pull the wires into the boat as there is a plastic fitting attached to the wires (I guess to keep the water out.) My question is why can't I pull the wires out from the outside the boat. Is there some sort of clamp or something holding the wires inside the boat in the transom? There is slack in the wires on the inside of the boat so they should pull out. However, they seem to be stuck on something as they won't move.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Trim Limit/Position Senders

May need a left hand drill bit to get them out, then replace.

Good job so far, I cheated and spliced in the position sensor to save me a couple hours work, am only on a fresh water lake. Not the proper way to do it by any means, but it works.

Good luck.
