Hi Guys I am new here, I just bought a 89 bayline capri with a Force 125 on, I was using the boat today and was going at a slow speed and was trimming the motor up, the trim just stopped working. When I hit trim button now I can hear the switch/ solonoid clicking. Can you give me any ideas ....

Also I was have any issue, I broke arm off the trigger, so it is now not connected to the throttle arm, I tested the boat out of the water and it seemed to rev fine even in gear, put it in the water and it sounds like it is not firing on all cylinders, is this normal. I am assuming I need to try and get this bit tack welded back

Please let me have your thoughts as soon as you can ... getting very frustrated

Thanks

Re: Trim Not Woking & trigger issue

As for the trim, I hope you are referring to the trim cylinder which is the larger hydraulic cylinder located below the Tilt cylinder. Trim cylinder moves really slow and is mainly for trimming the engine against the boat to control the bow and planing.

The tilt cylinder is unable to push back the engine while the engine is in gear above idle speed. It can however tilt the engine at idle speed or even better in neutral. It is mostly used to raise the engine when ready to recover boat especially in shallow water docks and to install the engine carrier for transporting.

As for the broken trigger arm, you definitely need to have this installed back and then verify timing. There is a sticky post and a youtube video showing how to do it. Without the trigger arm, the engine timing is all totally mess up.

Re: Trim Not Woking & trigger issue

Jiggz thanks so much for the reply I was referring to the cylinder, I think I must have cooked something trying to lift the trim whilst under a little power, the challenge now is the trim is only partially up so taking her out the water is going to be an issue, is there a way I can easily check if it is just a solenoid or it is the pump that is gone.

Also any thoughts on how to get tack the aluminium back together on the broken arm of the trigger, really dont want to buy a new trigger as I am based in Malta and it will take ages to get it

Thanks Robin

Does the trim go down or up? Test it at the relays. If it's getting power through the relays?Sounds like the motor needs attention?
Any motor will rev up with out a load.
The trigger MUST advance if your gonna run the motor.
If not you can do damage to the pistons.
Your right getting parts to Malta would be a BUMMER.
The trigger is made from pot metal. It's not gonna weld very good if at all.
If you get lucky and can weld it?? You might melt some of the goodies inside. Be careful.

Thanks for the reply, the motor does not trim at all, I can hear a click coming from in side the motor where the soloniods are, but does not move the motor at all.

Thanks for the advise on the trigger, I was hoping to avoid taking the fly wheel off but looks like it is the only option DAMIT

Test light on the leads to the trim motor.Cycle the motor/switch.
If it lights up on the green and blue wires? It's the motor.
No power to the motor, then unplug the wires and clean the contacts.

Re: Trim Not Woking & trigger issue

Ok all, please excuse me if I sound dim here, trigger and fly wheel back in place, now the fun part of setting the timing, I have been through the manual but need some clarity if you dont mind.

to set the timing, do I need to have the plugs in or out? if out I assume I must ground the plus before turning the motor over? I am planning to do this with flush muffs.

any other advise is very welcome

thanks
