Trim Position Indicator does not work

I have a 24' SeaRay with a Merccruiser 260. My lower unit trim position indicator does not work and we cannot see the lower unit with the swim platform in the way. What is the best way to dignose this problem, (indicator or sending unit). <br /><br />ronjon444

remove the sending unit wire from the back of the gauge(brown with a white tracer usually). connect an ohm meter lead to the trim wire and the other lead to a ground. raise and lower the drive and check for your ohms to change. when you remove the wire from the gauge and turn the key on the gauge should be in the down position. connect a wire from the send post on the gauge to a ground-with the key on-the gauge shoul peg full up.

on my nearly 20 your old say ray the wires that go form the sender rotted on the inside of the boat right behind the transom ...it wasnt fun to replace the sending unit ..<br /><br />Dom

Thanks for the input. I agree the gauge looks a whole lot easier than the sending unit. Hope the wire tests come out OK. I will post my results. <br /><br />Ron Jon
