Trim quandry...part deux.

So looking through EVERY possible schematic available, I have not found my setup for trim wiring. I suppose it was unique to Wellcraft or something. What I have is a dash mounted, two rocker button(top is "Tilt"...a momentary on/off) (bottom is "Trim up/Down"...a momentary on/off/momentary on).

Now... The TOP rocker has only two spade connections, to which are connected as follows(looking at the back)This allows me to raise the unit from full down to full up...which I can with no problems.

L_______________R

Blue____________(Empty)

Red(Jumper)_____(Empty)

(Empty)_________(Empty)

The BOTTOM rocker has six spade connections connected as follows (looking at the back of the switch)

L______________R

(Empty)__________Red(Jumpered to top switch)

(Empty)__________Green

Purple____<->___ Purple(jumpered together)

Now...with THIS arrangement I can LOWER the unit pushing trim "down" again...no problems.

The problem I have is that I cannot use the trim "up" to raise the unit to the stop limit, I've been trimming manually using the "Tilt" switch.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated....

Re: Trim quandry...part deux.

I don't necessarily have an answer, but perhaps more questions to answer. :)

Are you sure you don't have the two switches to be the "running tilt" and "trailering tilt". I know my trim button has 2 stages on the up side. Stage one goes as far as it should while the engine is running. Stage 2 (push button harder) lifts it the rest of the way for trailering.

There may be a trim limit switch in the lower unit that is broken, or even a broken wire along the way keeping the 2nd switch from working.

I seem to remember you had another thread on this, but don't remember your year/make/model/etc to give any more detailed advice on it.

If it is a Mercruiser once you get past the dash, they should be pretty much alike. I will take a educated guess that the problem is with your trim limit switch. Round thing on the port side of the gimbal ring. To check for sure, look for two black wires coming through the transom. One goes to a connector with a purple/white wire and the other to a connector with 2 blue/white wires. Pull the black wires out and jumper between the two connectors. Try the "up". If it works your problem is the trim limit circuit. You can use it like that, but just remember your trim will work same as trailer, no limit. Good luck.

1. No...they are labeled "Tilt"(Top rocker...push and hold to bring unit to full up position, or anywhere between full down and full up) and "Trim"("UP" to trim limit..push and hold rocker, automatically stops at preset limit{feature that is inoperative}/"DOWN" fully...push and hold rocker down)

2. The previous issue was resolved by replacing the "down" solenoid.

I checked the limit switch connections and all appears good...nothing broken.

Does anyone know the purpose of the purple wire being jumpered from one side of the switch to the other? It's a double pole rocker.
