They have chaged the numbers quite a few times on those.

You don't give any info on your drive model #. For my "LK" drive which is a 1997 DP-S it was 3863007.

Re: Trim sender part number....struggling!!!!

I just checked the Volvo Parner Network, and they now have the 007 as being the superceded part. It will work. In my previous post, it showed a different number for the LK, but if you order that number you will now get the 007.

Where did you order it from?? I'm looking for two for an '89 Cobra.. from what I remember, they are rather expensive, like $100 each. Just looking for a better price.
Thanks.

I bought mine from Fast Eddies on the internet for less than $40.

Re: Trim sender part number....struggling!!!!

thanks guys, i have a cobra sx drive. The part in the last 2 pics is 3863007 which does not look like fitting my drive. The plastc white endform in the pic rotates in both directions but then stops. The old one will spin all the way round.

My old one spun all the way around too. As long as your sterndrive doesn't spin all the way around you should be ok! ;)

I replaced it with the 386007.

I spliced the new wires into the old wires that go through the transom shield. This was on advice from my local dealer. I used the watertight heat shrink butt connectors with the adhesive in them. They are around $1.00/piece.

http://www.boatfix.com/catalog/133.pdf

Your dealer is an idiot! Why would you splice the wires??? It's very easy to remove the wires from the plug inside the boat, remove the circlip and remove the supplied wiring harness for the sender. It doesn't take any massive transomshield work like a Mercruiser does. It's usually about a 1 hour job start to finish. Without splicing the wires

Not on my boat. Entire engine housing has to come off.

Don, I understand what you are saying...if it was a part that would prevent the operation of the boat, it would be worth the extra 2 hours to get at the plug but I am willing to bet that these splices will last as long as this sensor which only lasted 2 years the first time around.

OK, Thanks guys, how do you go about installing the 3863007 sender unit?

Re: Trim sender part number....struggling!!!!

Hopefully, you can get at the plug easier than I could so you don't have to splice the wires.

One method is to put your stern drive all the way down and while having someone watching the guage, rotate the white knob on the sensor until the guage reads full down. Turn the knob slowly because the is some lag between the sensor and the guage. Sensor should not reach the stop. Then insert sensor into the pivot bolt and tighten the two screws.

Other method described in the manual is to have the drive all the way down and rotate sensor until you get 11 ohms between wires "A" and "C" and then insert into pivot bolt.

Re: Trim sender part number....struggling!!!!

So, are you all sure that the 386007 will fit my drive? I need to know now or take it back to the store today. They reckon there is another part number that they would like to look at. Any comments please????

Re: Trim sender part number....struggling!!!!

You never mentioned the year or model number of your drive.

Since you already have it, does it engage into the pivot bolt?

If you attatch the wires into the present plug does it move the guage?

Re: Trim sender part number....struggling!!!!

I cannot get it to engage at all and do not want to try and connect wires for fear of breaking them on removal.
Drive is 43GLPLKD 1997

Did you remove the retaining clip on the inside of the transom shield? It's clearly pictured and explained starting on page 2-14 of your service manual.
