Trim Sensor on a '86 Alpha One?

Howdy,
I have a 1986 boat with a Alpha One. My trim indicator on my boat either shows up or down, but not inbetween!
I did a little reading and found that the sensor is not serviceable, but when I removed it from the drive, I see the thing comes apart and there are two sliders with a arm that moves across, just like a reostat on a car. I looks like they are replaceable parts, so I thought maybe some here could tell me if I am swimming up the wrong stream.......

I would think replacing the internal parts would be easier that fishing the wire back and replacing it with a new one?
Any thoughts?

Thnaks in advance,
Bob

I don't think replacement parts are available. Sounds like you are just not making contact on the wire wound resistor. You could try cleaning it up and making sure it stays in contact throughout the entire range. Yes replacing is a major PITA.
