searched for past post did not see anything close so here it goes......I have a 40HP Mercury (3cyl)while trailering the boat 2 trips ago i noticed the trim tab had come loose, next day tightned the tab back up... it did not appear that it had rotated any at all....however just went out and steering wants to go left and is really hard to steer to the right. I did not hit anything or had any problems the day i pulled out of the water I'm assuming the tab rotated while on the trailer.

Prior to this i had perfict steering. My question is based on this what adjustments to the tab should be made...and what is the general rule for this problem

BTW i did a once over the whole boat and motor did not find anyother loose bolts or adverse findings

Thanks

nd2fsh

The tab counteracts torque steer. If your boat is pulling to the left, move the rear of the fin to the left. If it pulls to the right, move the rear to the right. Do this in small increments(1/4") from the centered position until the steering feels right.

Rick is correct.

Rear edge of fin toward the direction of pull.
