I have a 1988 90hp Johnson TLC that was rebuilt in 1995. The trim and tilt has recently stopped working and I need to adjust it. The engine is currently up, and I need to get it down. Is there are manual release someplace that I'm missing? Thanks for your help.

Re: Trim/Tilt Question

there's a screw on the side; look for a hole in the side of the motor mount. Give it about a half a turn to release the pressure. Be sure the motor is blocked first as it will drop fast.
Good luck with the PTT they are a bch to work on.

Re: Trim/Tilt Question

Switch trim relays around(upper one to lower position & lower to upper position) Mine would trim up & wouldn't trim down. Would work right mosttimes however. The top Evinrude Johnson mechanic around here tested it & said the trim harness had a problem, but guess what??? I took a chance & replaced both relays & it works perfectly & faster than ever before. This was the first time i've ever known my mechanic to be wrong as he is top notch.Even when relays were switched around you could peck them with a screwdriver to get it to work right or when working right could get it to stop working. Very easy fix for $30.00 shipping & all from Iboats
