I wanted to share this repair with all. I replaced the TT unit on my V8. I had to destroy the old one to get it off. The replacement I purchased on EBay looked great but was internally broken. I had to reuse the 2 wire motor from the original unit for the replacement unit as it was a three wire.
After doing all the repairs and getting it to function, it would not trim out at speed. I checked all the part numbers to find out if the replacement unit was different from the one that came off my engine. The large engine TT unit seems to be interchangeable on most of the larger engines.
I found the biggest difference to be the motor part number. I finally got around to changing it out today with the correct part. What a difference. After installing it is up and down about twice as fast as before... Gonna get it in the water tomorrow but I'm certain it will trim under power now. Persistence!!! Or maybe just plain stubborn.

Re: Trim tilt repair

That's why us old mechanics get more ornery with age. Ya gotta be more stubborn than the motors they bring ya. ;)
