Trim works on Bravo One, Trailer Trim doesn't

I've been on the boards long enough to know I should search, but I am working off my blackberry, so it is not practical right now and I need an answer, because....

I am about to head out to trailer my boat (2-hour, 80 mile drive) to be rack stored. I went to raise the outdrive to 'trailer up' position but I have nothing. Not a click. Not a whine or whir -- just nothing.

Background: The regular trim works fine. Up 'n' Down (or as I call it In/Out) are all good. The full up (or out) position with regular trim is fairly high. Regular trim has what appears to be normal range/functionality.

Trailer Trim? Nothing.

So... is there an easy/obvious fix, and can someone explain it w/out posting a link that will overwhelm my blackberry right now?

If there is not an easy fix that can be explained, can I trailer it set as high/out as it will go w/ the regular trim?

Just a guess could you take the Trim Limit switch and loosen it up turn it counter clockwise but I would bet either the switch is bad or the button for trailering is bad. Mark the original position of the limit switch and then turn it and regular trim in/out should work I believe.

It also could be a cut wire. I know their is a way to jumper the switch to bypass the limit switch but I am just not sure know too.

Your problem has to be either the trailer button, or the wires going to it. All the wiring for tilt and trim is the same from the control to the transom.

Using the terms you are using makes me wonder if you have the "old" style 3 button set up? Three buttons surrounded by one face plate? The forward or top button labelled "Out", the rear or bottom button labelled "IN"?
If so, you know that you have to push and hold the middle button, along with the "OUT" button to trailer it, right?
But I doubt that's what your control is. Probably a loose wire going to the "Trailer" switch.

Re: Bravo One, 502 Merc, 1996 Wellcraft Scarab outdrive trim

Note the four black rocker switches/buttons above the shifter/throttle. Two farthest right are the L/R trim tabs. The two on the left of the grouping are the 'Trailer' and 'Trim'.

I guess what I am hearing and reading (now that I am on-line) is that the major components of the trim system are working if I get the drive up/down with the trim button, but get nothing with the trailer button. It worked before she got covered for the winter, so I will just inspect the switch/wiring and whatever else is suggested.

If I am stumped, can I trailer it anyway, setting it up as far as possible with the standard trim?

We can not see your panel. Every boat is different. Shoot, we don't even know the year.

You could actually disconnect the trim limit switch wires inside the boat, and hook the the harness ends together and use the trim switch to raise the drive all the way up.

Hook the harness ends together? If I pull off the limit switch wires... what are they getting hooked to? The other wires are hooked to the other switch?

Not getting this...

Remove the trim limit switch from the loop? So... It works on the regular trim button... and I want to simply remove it and then complete the circuit with the regular wires harnessed together when they would normally be plugged into the limit switch? That right? This would be at the dash??

No, no place to do it under the dash. It's done at the transom shield. There are two sets of wires coming in from the transom shield. One set for the gauge sender, the other is the trim limit.
Just unplug the trim limit wires, the connect the harness ends together and the trim limit switch is out of the system. Then the trim switch will move the drive all the way up and the tilt button will not be needed.

Got it.

I will get under the hatch and get the trim limit switch out of the system. I know my max trim when running anyway.

Thanks! :)
